More than Four Thousand Years in the History of Yoga
When you think about it, yoga is a means to bring together the mind, body as well as spirit in perfect unison, and in fact, right from the earliest days of the beginnings of yoga to the present day yoga, these intentions have not changed ñ only been refined and improved. As a matter of fact, the brief history of Yoga has a lot of tradition embodied in it and it is basically a system pertaining to the physical, mental as well as spiritual health and fitness of a practitioner that has its roots in the system devised in India that goes back many thousands of years. Thus, the history of yoga is rich not only in its tradition, but also in its effectiveness and it may be divided into four different periods that began with the pre-classical period which was followed by the classical period which gave way to the post-classical period and up to the present or modern period.
Yoga Sutra Is What The Book On Yoga Is Called
The classical period of yoga would not have been possible with the book yoga sutra and the full history of yoga that it helps to contain in its pages. The word “yoga” means a joining of two unlike objects together by stemming from the word “yolk” similar to an oxen and its cart. Therefore, the exercises and postures of yoga have to do with uniting every aspect of the body and human elements together into one entity for greater peace.
You might think that yoga is just the contortion of the body into odd poses, but the history of yoga shows that there are ethics involved, meditation, controlled breathing exercises and physical postures as well.
Unlike in the the history of Yoga, the present-day yoga has seen a divide between the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga, although a kind of renaissance has sprung up in the past years thanks to the popularity of yoga. In addition, the history of yoga has also seen the emergence of many different schools of yoga and even the practice of yoga has seen much branches sprouting along with different philosophies being spawned as well.
The mind, body and spirit of the individual are still thought to work together, so despite the history of yoga, there is still a pure and true intention of the movements. Rather than see yoga simply as a way to stay lean and strong, the history of yoga teaches us that these postures will help to empower our lives through the use of better mind and body control over time for better health.
