Charter Fishing
Before you decide to book a particular fishing charter, there is some must know tips that ensure your charter goes as you plan. You want to get the very most for your charter dollar, so we’ll take a look at how you can be as best prepared as possible!
Part of my occupation is working on charter boats, as a deckie, and I have witnessed many charters over the years. I speak from experience when I say that having the best time out fishing is dependant on wether or not you approach the boat fully prepared! I also go on many charters each year, as I simply love fishing! Ive amassed a wealth of tips and tricks over the years, as an industry insider.
Before you leave, there are simply a series of must do and must establish things, that you need to iron out before the boat leaves. Try and ensure the skipper is the one you talk to!
*Departure time and departure location. Berthing facilities are known to be confusing areas, so if you dont know it well, pop down the day before and sus out where the boat goes from, about 1 in every 3 trips I work on, leaves late because of the clients.
*Ask the captain about what equipment the boat has, and what equipment you must bring along. Fishing gear can deteriorate fast, so to ensure that big one doesnt get away, you want good gear that is well looked after.
*Ask your captain how fast the boat cruises at, and how long you can expect to take getting to the fishing spots. You shouldnt be out cruising all day, its best to get to the fishing grounds fast!
