Cat Toilet Training in Two Fast Steps

Practically everybody who owned an indoor kitty knows how much of a chore it is, to daily take care of a litter box. And many owners of house cats also know what an even more unnerving task it is when the kitty doesn’t take the litter box! Of course there are many among us always dreaming of more important things and do not wish to learn more about litter box cleaning. For these cat owners, there is good news now. Yes, believe it or not, it is not a big thing to train your cat, to use an actual toilet. When you do the toilet training with your kitty, you will teach it to go ahead and use the toilet instead of the litter box. While this sounds too good to be true, temper your imagination a bit with the recognition that you still have to flush the toilet for your kitty.

1. Changing the Place of Your Kitty’s Litter Box

In case your cat’s litter box is not already in the bathroom, you will need to move it there. The box should be near the toilet on the floor for some days. After a couple of days you will raise the litter box up some inches making sure that it is sitting very stable. In case you have no appropriate furniture fitting this description, you could use books if they are arranged in a balanced fashion. Of course it is the goal, to reach the point where the rim of the cat litter box and the toilet bowl are even. Only then you should put a sturdy aluminum pan over the toilet bowl in a manner that will allow it to support your cat without wobbling as you start the toilet training. Limit the amount of cat litter now to less than an inch across the bottom of the pan.

2. Making your Cat feel Comfortable when using its new Toilet Seat

Once you have taken away the litter box and have the cat using the pan only, you are now ready to start the last part of toilet training of your cat. You can begin the training by poking some holes in the surface of one side of the pan. Yes, you should reduce the cat litter so that it doesn’t leave through the toilet. In addition to that, you should consider using flushable cat litter at this point. The holes will direct the kitty to put its front paws on the toilet seat as it needs to potty. After your cat has been doing this for some days, you should make holes on the other side of the pan so that the kitty will be standing entirely on the toilet seat. The critical step of the toilet training instructions is that after your cat has been doing this with success for a a while, you have to totally take away the pan. If you were training your kitty with success, your kitty will now use the bathroom toilet!

One Last Word on Toilet Training your Cat

These 2 steps can easily last as long as two to three months with a narrow minded, older cat. So be patient with your canine. Remember water isn’t something cats are usually comfortable around. Don’t give up if your cat doesn’t use the toilet a couple of times in a row. You should keep your pan in case your feline friend is not willing or is momentarily not in the mood using this toilet. You can simply put the pan back again on the toilet and the cat can be re-trained to take the toilet again pretty fast. The benefits of toilet training your feline companion are many.
